Muv Bus is a room enroute.

Muv Bus was created for urban mobilities, a vehicle for “the last mile journey” between public transit hubs and nearby neighborhoods. We envisioned the design to be an open room in a monolithic volume, a comfortable space for people, and a neutral object that moves through the city.

The Muv Bus design began as a pure rectilinear form. The front and rear façades are curved to clear tight turns, the roof is sloped for the rain, and the bottom edges are contoured to go over uneven roads. The use of curves and rounds soften its presence, making the large vehicle more gentle and approachable. The straight forward mindset is a delightful design experience.

Many of the interior elements are defined by the vehicle design regulations. We sized the entrance, the walkway, and the seats to meet the standard requirements and then enlarged them slightly for additional comfort. The entrance is located in front for the driver to quickly assist passengers.

We used laser-cut metal sheets to build the bus exterior for the benefit of shorter production time. Like sewing cloth, the laser-cut panels are seam-welded together into bumpers, entrance steps, body panels, etc. The constraints of using flat panels gave the design a simplified aesthetic that we appreciate.

Muv Bus is a big design endeavor for us, as it requires multi-disciplinary understandings in industrial design, interior design, and transportation design. We feel that, a vehicle that is created from Industrial Designers’ perspectives, could be a refreshing choice of urban transportation.

The Muv Bus design will continue to evolve and more details on the project to follow in the future.
